Created as part of Alice Partelpoeg's collaborative project with Dior during her IFM Knitwear MA program, 'The Hum Between' sheds light on the fragile reality of honeybees struggling to survive in an ecosystem shaped by intensive agriculture and chemical intervention. Deeply inspired by Sarah Mapelli's spiritual performances, in which thousands of live honeybees cover her body in an act of trust and coexistence, Partelpoeg transforms this relationship into a delicate work of knitwear art. Resembling a swarm of bees gently embracing the body, the dress gradually dissolves along its open back silhouette, evoking both movement and vulnerability.
"The piece imagines a future where bees are no longer victims of human actions, but thriving participants in a balanced ecosystem once again," she explains. Through fashion, Partelpoeg offers a powerful reflection on ecology that is as visually captivating as it is weighty in meaning. Knitwear, like so many materials, can transcend fabric and become a canvas for urgent messages. How do you envision the relationship between fashion and nature, and the future they might share?
