Experience gained at the youngest age often becomes the greatest asset. SN Academy, a fashion school in Kazakhstan, begins design education with children as young as five. Founder Saltanat Nishanbay erased the boundaries of age and borders, letting creativity be the only measure. Students learn the entire production process hands on, from sketching and pattern cutting to sewing and textile work. The pleated draped gown on the mannequin and the sketch beside it are both the work of a single child.
Experience comes before theory, creative freedom before memorization. One can only hope this open approach to education will expand to more places, including Korea.
