Hyukoh has released the music video for 'Godspeed!', their first new song in six years. The face that carries the entire five minutes alone is that of Japanese actor Sakura Ando. Riding an old train, she meets her younger self on a schoolyard at dusk, takes the baton the child has picked up, and in the end runs again. She runs the morning commute with a race number pinned over her suit, and that image is no different from the rest of us today.
The song itself arrives at 6 p.m. On the way home, each of us on our own track will receive this cheer. Every day a race that starts again. The commute in and the commute out, the work and the fatigue that fill the space between. Even in all that repetition, we're still running. Some may be too tired to go on, but Hyukoh passes the baton once more with this track.
In the video, Sakura Ando seems to stop when she meets her younger self, but in the end she steps forward again. Time flows and the body tires, but despite it all, the thing that continues. As Hyukoh's music has always done, this new song arrives as quiet encouragement. A word for those who repeat each day's departure: godspeed. Did you set out safely again today?
