Paris-based fashion house Coperni has unveiled The Meteorite Swipe Bag, crafted from a moon rock that fell to Earth 55,000 years ago. Carved in 2023 by Italian atelier Semar SRL, the handbag represents an extraordinary fusion of cosmic material and haute couture craftsmanship. The bag retains the meteorite's raw, textured surface and dark patina, showcasing the intersection of natural sculptural beauty and human technical prowess.

Coperni has consistently pushed the boundaries between fashion and technology, previously introducing the Nano Airbag that demonstrated their commitment to material innovation. Creative directors Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant have built the brand's identity around experimental materials and technological integration, with the Meteorite Bag standing as perhaps their most dramatic manifestation of this vision. The piece transcends conventional luxury accessories by incorporating genuine extraterrestrial matter into wearable art.

The technical challenges of transforming meteorite into a functional handbag are considerable. Semar SRL had to preserve the rock's original character while engineering a practical bag structure, balancing preservation with usability. The result is simultaneously a sculpture and a wearable fashion item. Coperni's meteorite experiment demonstrates that luxury fashion can serve as a medium for dialogue with science, history, and the cosmos—expanding the definition of what a handbag can represent beyond mere accessory status.
