Alessandro Malossi Reimagines Classic Art With Condoms

고전회화를 콘돔으로 재해석한 알레산드로 말로시의 도발

Milan-based digital artist Alessandro Malossi operates at the intersection of fashion and contemporary art, redefining the boundaries between the two. Known for collaborations with Calvin Klein, Nike, and Levi's, Malossi transformed hyperrealism into a language suited for the social media era. His signature series NOAH elevated modern materialism to mythological status, provoking both visual shock and intellectual reflection.

His most controversial body of work reinterprets Western art history's masterpieces using condoms as the primary medium. Starting with Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring, he went on to recreate Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam, Munch's The Scream, and Salvador Dalí's The Persistence of Memory—all wrapped in translucent disposable material. The condom-clad images expose the tension between sanctity and desire, preservation and consumption, in a direct and visceral manner.

Malossi's practice asks a fundamental question: should art remain distant and untouchable, or should it be rewritten and revived through contact and reinterpretation? The condom, an object deeply tied to both protection and physical intimacy, becomes a metaphor for art's place in contemporary culture. By stripping classical works of their reverence and infusing them with human warmth and desire, Malossi invites viewers to continually reinterpret what they see, keeping the conversation open and alive.
