What if the future of makeup was not about altering the body to make it fit the standards of beauty, but about giving it new, non-human, object-like surfaces? We might eventually stop asking makeup to make us more beautiful or canonical and start asking it to make us something else. Perhaps the most realistic bodies of the future will be those that refuse to remain recognisable, and the future of makeup lies in imagining cosmetics that allow us to temporarily inhabit a different skin.
