When Knitwear Becomes Sculpture: Yeru Sanka's 'Sculpted Space'

니트웨어가 조각이 될 때, Yeru Sanka의 'Sculpted Space'

Emerging designer Yeru Sanka from Sweden's SST (Swedish School of Textiles) has unveiled a groundbreaking BA graduate collection titled 'Sculpted Space' that redefines the possibilities of knitwear. Reinterpreting traditional design patterns to mold to the body while generating independent structures, this collection elevates knit garments to the status of wearable art. Like colorful waves frozen in time and space, each piece captures movement in sculptural, visually arresting forms.

Sanka's technical approach is equally noteworthy. The knitted sculptural elements adapt to the body and connect with undergarments, then are coated with multiple layers of latex to enhance both stability and the unique expression of their shapes. These advanced techniques introduce an innovative approach to statement pieces, proving that knitwear can transcend mere clothing to become wearable artwork, with design functioning as performance.

The collection's boldness is amplified by a vibrant and playful color palette. Through collaboration with graffiti artist Adam Algotsson, who contributed spray painting techniques, the graphic impact intensifies dramatically. Each garment transforms reality into sculptural wearables that envelop the body while isolating it within its own ethereal sphere.

'Sculpted Space' stands as a masterpiece demonstrating how fashion design can function as performance art. With this graduate collection, Yeru Sanka has dismantled the traditional boundaries of knitwear, establishing himself as a designer who transforms the wearer into a living sculpture.
