When Eyelashes Leave the Eyes Behind

When did eyelashes become solely about the eyes? Making them long and voluminous to enlarge the eyes, correcting their shape, and refining the overall impression of the face. Most eyelash makeup we know follows the natural lash line, simply adding to and extending what is already there. Makeup artist Audrey questions this seemingly obvious placement from the start. In her work, eyelashes abandon the eyelids entirely, stretching beneath the eyes, across the cheeks and forehead, and sometimes hanging far beyond the face.

Multiple strands extend across the skin in different directions, transforming into musical staves or straight hair so long it demands to be pinned back. Her eyelash work goes beyond being merely strange or experimental. Some ideas are inventive enough to actually want to try. If there is no right place for eyelashes to be, is there really a right way for a face to be beautiful?
