Seoul has expanded its emergency heat wave alert to cover the entire city as record-breaking temperatures continue. The Korea Meteorological Administration issued the highest-level alert on August 4 at 11 a.m., extending coverage beyond select districts to all of Seoul, along with parts of Gyeonggi Province and Jeonju. The emergency classification is triggered when daytime highs are forecast to reach 39°C or when the heat index exceeds 38°C. What was previously limited to certain areas of the capital now encompasses the entire metropolitan region.
Authorities are urging residents to avoid outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take regular breaks to prevent heat-related illness.
