Misobakecake is a small studio near Hongdae, and every cake here begins with the story of the person who ordered it. A memory from an anniversary, a wish for family, someone's tastes and dreams. Designer Son Gyuri, who studied sculpture, reads each story and turns its mood into bold colors and delicate details, shaping a cake like no other. Sculpture is the art of adding and carving material to create form. Now those hands move over cream and dough.
The name comes from Miso, the heroine of the Korean film. Like Miso, who lives each day her own way without caring what others think, Misobakecake never repeats a set design and makes something new every time. A single sentence or word on the order form becomes a clue for shape and color. A cake for a husband who loves Harry Potter and is an MBTI 'T' engineer was finished with swirls of green and red and metal parts. The more specific the story, the clearer the cake's form.
The first image shows a cake layered in pink and purple, with plastic floral decorations rising above. The second image gathers six cakes mixed in blue, pink, and yellow. The third has red ribbon flowing over green cream waves, studded with leopard-print elements and pearl beads. All of them are results of Son Gyuri reading the stories customers handed over and translating them into form.
A cake disappears once it's eaten, but the story inside lingers. In photos, in memory, sometimes as one square in an SNS feed. Misobakecake cakes are documented right after completion. The customer sees again what shape their story took. What kind of cake would your story become?
