When Machine Meets Flesh: Hengdi Wang's Cybernetic Vision

At Shanghai Fashion Week, designer Hengdi Wang presented Spring/Summer 2025 collection 'Cybernetics Blooming Inside of Me', a powerful vision that dissolves the boundaries between human and machine. Inspired by H.R. Giger's exoskeleton designs from Alien and Species, the collection reimagines fashion as a dialogue between the organic and the synthetic, exploring where flesh ends and technology begins.

Ruched gowns, lace bodysuits, and futuristic body armour merge into a surrealist aesthetic that challenges conventional silhouettes. Gleaming metallic spines, exoskeleton-inspired masks, and pronged jewellery evoke alien anatomies, transforming garments into wearable art that feels both familiar and otherworldly. Through cutting-edge 3D printing techniques and detailed anatomical research, Wang integrates mechanical structures with natural forms, elevating body accessories into powerful sculptural statements.

The collection poses a critical question for our tech-saturated era: as technology permeates our lives, do we reshape it, or does it reshape us?
