GARDEN OF ESCAPISM — Cover

GARDEN OF ESCAPISM

Within a molten orange universe, shadow becomes sanctuary. The entire frame glows with saturated tangerine light, against which dark silhouettes and organic botanical shadows drift like pressed petals. A black long-sleeved top meets a waist-tied garment in translucent crimson fabric, the material catching light in ripples as the figure extends her arms in fluid, dance-like gesture. The studio lighting is theatre: high contrast, almost backlit, carving the profile and upswept hair into stark relief while allowing floral projections to float across the backdrop like a memory of summer. In the tighter compositions, a sculptural ear cuff gleams against skin, and the silhouette narrows to pure geometry—head, shoulder, shadow. Zhaoxiang Zhang, BEIBEI, and Yiwen Hu construct a visual language of warmth and withdrawal, where escapism is not flight but immersion in colour, and the garden exists only in projected light and the mind's eye.

FAQ

Who worked on the GARDEN OF ESCAPISM editorial?

This editorial was a collaboration between Zhaoxiang Zhang, BEIBEI, and Yiwen Hu, using intense orange lighting and plant shadows in a studio shoot to express the boundary between reality and fantasy.

What is the lighting concept of this editorial?

Hot orange light floods the entire wall while plant shadows create organic patterns, trapping the subject halfway in darkness yet letting reddish transmitted light flow along fabric folds and body movements.
