Lisa Jiang Unveils Kinetic Dress Inspired by Ocean Creatures

Designer Lisa Jiang (@lisa_jiang_) has unveiled a kinetic dress inspired by the organic movements of sea anemones and blooming flowers. Crafted from hand-dyed silk organza, the piece features ruffled layers that flow gracefully with the wearer's motion, creating a dynamic, living quality. Small motors embedded in the bodice are programmed to mimic the fluid motion of vortex shedding, evoking the elegant movements of underwater creatures.

The dress draws inspiration from Shaun Tan's graphic novel The Arrival, reflecting the surreal journey of starting anew in an unfamiliar world. The vibrant red tones against a soft, translucent base create a striking visual contrast, enhancing the sense of movement and vitality. Created in collaboration with kinetic artist Timothy Aboll (@timothyaboll), this piece represents a fusion of fashion, technology, and art—a moving sculpture in garment form.
