Elena Velez Transforms NYFW Into a Dark Nautical Myth

엘레나 벨레즈, 뉴욕에서 펼친 어둡고 관능적인 바다 신화

Elena Velez's Fall/Winter 2025 ready-to-wear collection, Leech, transformed New York Fashion Week into a mythic nautical dreamscape. Set in a former boiler room reimagined as a digital ocean, models embodied Eve and the Serpent—crawling, contorting, and commanding the runway in raw, deconstructed silhouettes. Anna Delvey opened the show in an olive leather suit paired with her signature ankle monitor, setting the tone for a collection that redefines femininity, power, and seduction.

Velez posed the question: siren or sailor? Through this duality, she explored the ocean's contradictions with primal, architectural designs. Digital projections of rolling waves blurred the line between dream and nightmare, pulling the audience into a mythological narrative. Leather, kelp-like materials, and raw textures merged to visualize the tension between humanity and nature, seduction and danger. Each piece carried an unsettling beauty that challenged conventional notions of wearability.

This collection deepens Velez's ongoing exploration of destruction and reconstruction in fashion. By dismantling traditional womenswear structures and infusing them with primal energy, her designs pose questions about power dynamics and gender identity. The show stands as one of NYFW's most provocative and artistic moments, proving that fashion can transcend garments to become narrative and performance. Velez continues to establish herself as a designer unafraid to confront darkness and desire.
