Antonio Marras paid homage to Eleanor, Princess of Arborea, a legendary medieval female ruler of Sardinia, in his Fall/Winter 2024 collection. Eleanor, who restored peace and prosperity to the Kingdom of Arborea in the 14th century, is celebrated for her exceptional leadership and progressive legal reforms. Marras translated her story into a contemporary and progressive fashion language, radically transforming medieval iconography into wearable narratives for today.
The collection features reinterpretations of distinctive medieval European garment elements with a modern sensibility. The escoffion—a dramatic headdress with low flaps on both sides—appears alongside the wimple, traditionally worn by medieval women to cover their heads, and details inspired by gladiator helmets. These historical references are juxtaposed with sheer fabrics, feather embellishments, bold silhouettes, and layered constructions that bridge centuries of craft and storytelling.
