99%IS- × COMME des GARÇONS: ILLUMINATION Redefines Black

On December 1, BAZOWOO of 99%IS- and COMME des GARÇONS TRADING MUSEUM unveil ILLUMINATION, a collaborative collection curated by Rei Kawakubo herself in Tokyo. BAZOWOO joins an exclusive circle—alongside CHROME HEARTS and Wolfs Head—as one of only three designers ever granted permission to reinterpret the COMME des GARÇONS archive. This collaboration is more than a commercial release; it is a reaffirmation of his creative standing in Kawakubo's eyes.

The collection is built on a foundation of deep, cold black, layered with metallic chains and structural details that suggest a new visual language. In the campaign imagery, BAZOWOO wears a black coat embellished with silver chain appliqués, safety pins, and embroidered motifs, styled with pale makeup and spiked hair that oscillates between punk rebellion and avant-garde restraint. The project quietly asks: how warm can black become? It challenges the conventional coldness of the color, transforming it into something tactile, sensory, and emotionally resonant.

The full lineup will be on display for two weeks at the Omotesando TRADING MUSEUM, while the Roppongi location will exclusively carry the T-shirt line. Rather than a finite product drop, ILLUMINATION reads as a conceptual inquiry—a dialogue between two design philosophies that redefines black not as absence, but as possibility.
