조슈아 와이(Joshua Why)는 프랑스에서 태어나 파리를 기반으로 활동하는 3D 아티스트이자 영화감독이다. 아트 디렉션과 3D 소프트웨어를 오가는 폭넓은 기술로 자신만의 뚜렷한 창작 관점을 만들어왔다.<br><br>그의 작업은 대체로 가상과 혼종의 초상이라는 주제를 중심으로 구축된다. 3D 소프트웨어를 통해 예상 밖의 인물과 모델을 만들어내는데, 이들은 현실 세계에 존재할 필요가 없는 존재들이다. 동시에 그 가상 현실의 본질을 되묻는 분위기와 환경을 짓는 일이기도 하다.<br><br>지금까지 Persona, The Dreamers 같은 시리즈를 발표했고, 매거진 Junon을 위한 최근 작업은 페미니스트 커뮤니티의 호평을 받았다. Joshua Why is a French-born and Paris-based 3D artist and filmmaker, who also functions as an intellectual. His diverse skills in art direction and 3D software allow him to develop a strong point of view of artistic creation.<br><br>His work is mostly built around the thematic of virtual and hybrid portraits. Thanks to 3D software, he creates and designs unexpected characters and models. Models which do not need to exist in the real world. It is also about building an atmosphere and an environment which is a reflection about the nature of this virtual reality.<br><br>He has made series like Persona and, more recently, The Dreamers. His work for the editorial magazine Junon was acclaimed by the feminist community, and he has collaborated with photographers such as Kimdary for Uniform Magazine. His work is profoundly impacted by artists like Matthew Barney and Orlan, and inspired by cinema such as Tarkovsky and Jodorowsky.
